AI Resume Tailoring Tool Pricing in 2026: 9 Tools Compared

By Roy7 min read

AI resume tailoring costs anywhere from nothing to about $50 a month in October 2026, and the sticker price says little on its own. General assistants like ChatGPT and Claude charge around $20 a month and publish no fixed count of rewrites. Dedicated resume tools charge per week, month or quarter, and their free tiers cap different things: scans, credits, downloads or tailored resumes. This page lists what each one charges, taken from its live pricing page, and works out a cost per tailored resume wherever the vendor publishes enough to compute one.

Cost per tailored resume, where it can be computed

A cost per tailored resume needs two published numbers: a price and a usage allowance. Most vendors publish only the price.

PlanPricePublished allowanceCost per tailored resume
Huntr Free$02 job-tailored resumes$0 for the first 2
Rezi Free$03 PDF downloads$0 for the first 3 downloads
ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Copilot paid$9.99 to $20Not published as a countNot computable
Jobscan, Teal+, Rezi Pro, Huntr Pro$29 to $49.95UnlimitedFalls with every application

"Unlimited" plans have no fixed per-resume cost: at Jobscan's $49.95 monthly price, 25 tailored applications in a month works out to about $2 each, and 50 to about $1. The general assistants say limits vary with the length and complexity of your chats; Claude's pricing page says outright there is "no fixed message count," and Gemini's limits page describes compute-based limits that refresh every 5 hours up to a weekly cap.

What a four-week job search costs on each

Most searches run in bursts, so normalise to roughly one month. Using each vendor's published prices:

  1. Gemini AI Plus: $4.99 for one month.
  2. Microsoft 365 Personal (Copilot in Word): $9.99 for one month, after a free month where Microsoft's trial terms allow.
  3. ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro: $20 for one month, billed monthly.
  4. Teal+: $29 for 30 days, or $52 if you buy four 7-day passes at $13.
  5. Rezi Pro: $29 for one month; the $149 lifetime plan costs less than paying monthly from the sixth month on.
  6. Jobscan: $49.95 for one month on the monthly plan; the quarterly plan bills $89.95 up front, which Jobscan presents as $29.98 a month, after a 7-day free trial.
  7. Huntr Pro: $40 for one month; $90 every 3 months on the quarterly plan.

Billing terms matter as much as price. Jobscan's FAQ says its free trial applies to the quarterly plan, not the monthly one. Teal says no credit card is needed to start. Microsoft notes that whether its trial needs payment details varies by offer and region. Gemini's page says there are no refunds for partial billing periods except where the law requires.

Annual and multi-month billing

Longer commitments lower the monthly rate but raise the up-front cost, which is the wrong trade for most job searches. What each vendor publishes:

  • Claude Pro: $17 a month on the annual plan, which Claude's pricing page says is $200 billed up front, against $20 billed monthly.
  • ChatGPT Plus: OpenAI's Plus article says annual billing is not currently offered.
  • Microsoft 365: the individual pricing page says yearly billing saves up to 17%; the $99.99 Pro tier is monthly only.
  • Jobscan, Teal, Huntr: quarterly or 90-day plans, listed in the table above.

If you expect to be hired within a couple of months, monthly billing with a calendar reminder to cancel is usually the cheaper route. An annual plan only makes sense if you would use the assistant for other work anyway.

What you are paying for

The two categories sell different things, and the price gap reflects it.

General assistants charge for a model and a usage allowance. You bring the method: the prompts, the posting, and the checking. They are the cheapest per month and the most flexible, and the free tiers are enough for occasional use; our ChatGPT tailoring prompts are the kind that make free tiers work.

Dedicated resume tools charge for a workflow: keyword matching against the posting, a match score, templates, downloads and often a job tracker. The free tiers are built to show you the workflow and stop at a specific point, which is worth knowing in advance:

  • Jobscan stops at 5 scans a month.
  • Teal stops AI writing at its credit allowance and shows only the top 5 keywords.
  • Rezi stops at one resume and three PDF downloads, with no Word download.
  • Huntr stops at two job-tailored resumes.

Ours stops at the download: the full tailored resume and ATS score are shown free and can be copied or saved as .txt, and PDF and Word downloads need the Pass, which includes a 30-day money-back guarantee and one-click cancel.

How to choose without overpaying

  • Applying to a handful of jobs? Use a free tier. A general assistant plus a careful prompt covers it; our guide to tailoring with AI has the method.
  • Applying to many jobs in a short burst? A weekly or monthly plan you cancel afterwards usually beats a quarterly one, even at a higher monthly rate.
  • Searching for months? Quarterly and lifetime plans start to pay off; do the arithmetic against your expected search length.
  • Need a Word file specifically? Check the free tier's export options first. Rezi's free plan, for example, lists PDF downloads but not .docx, and some employers' application forms ask for Word; see PDF vs .docx for ATS for when it matters.
  • Whatever you pick: check the cancellation terms on the pricing page before entering a card, and set a reminder for the renewal date.

Frequently asked questions

What is the cheapest way to tailor a resume with AI?
A free tier. ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Copilot all have free versions that can rewrite a pasted resume against a pasted posting. The cheapest paid option on this list is Gemini AI Plus at $4.99 monthly in the US.
Are lifetime resume tool plans worth it?
Only if you expect to use the tool for longer than the break-even point. Rezi's $149 lifetime plan equals about five months of its $29 monthly plan; a short search is cheaper month to month.
Do these prices include tax?
Not necessarily. Claude's pricing page says its prices exclude applicable tax, and Jobscan's FAQ says it adds state and local sales tax based on your billing address. Check the checkout total.
Why don't ChatGPT and Claude say how many resumes I can tailor?
Their limits are based on usage rather than a count: the length of your chats, the model and the features you use. Claude's pricing page says there is no fixed message count, and limits reset on a rolling five-hour window.
