AI Recruiting Tools Companies Use: S&P 500 Data by Vendor
"Which AI is screening my resume?" has a concrete answer for large US employers. You can see it in the careers site you apply through. We identified the hiring platform behind every S&P 500 company's careers site we could. This page lays out which vendors large employers run, how that varies by sector, and what each of the AI-forward platforms says its screening does.
The data: platforms behind 503 S&P 500 careers sites
The figures below come from the ATS Resume AI analysis of all 503 S&P 500 careers sites and 9,260 live job postings, June 2026 (methodology and company list). For 215 companies (42.7%), the platform could not be identified from the careers site, so the second column uses the 288 identified companies as the base.
| Platform | Companies | Share of all 503 | Share of 288 identified |
|---|---|---|---|
| Workday | 87 | 17.3% | 30.2% |
| Phenom People | 39 | 7.8% | 13.5% |
| SAP SuccessFactors | 37 | 7.4% | 12.8% |
| Oracle HCM Cloud | 29 | 5.8% | 10.1% |
| iCIMS | 26 | 5.2% | 9.0% |
| Greenhouse | 23 | 4.6% | 8.0% |
| Eightfold | 17 | 3.4% | 5.9% |
| Oracle Taleo | 9 | 1.8% | 3.1% |
| Avature | 8 | 1.6% | n/a |
| SmartRecruiters, UKG (UltiPro) | 3 each | 0.6% each | n/a |
| IBM Kenexa BrassRing, Lever | 2 each | 0.4% each | n/a |
| ADP, Jobvite, BambooHR | 1 each | 0.2% each | n/a |
| Unknown | 215 | 42.7% | n/a |
Two points from the table. First, the market is concentrated: the top three identified platforms account for 163 of the 288 identified companies. Second, two of the top seven, Phenom and Eightfold, are platforms built around AI matching rather than classic applicant tracking.
By sector: where each platform leads
The same analysis broke companies down by GICS sector. In each sector, the leading identified platform was:
| Sector (companies) | Unidentified | Leading identified platform |
|---|---|---|
| Health Care (59) | 22 (37%) | Workday, 17 (29%) |
| Information Technology (72) | 26 (36%) | Workday, 15 (21%) |
| Financials (76) | 33 (43%) | Workday, 15 (20%) |
| Consumer Staples (36) | 15 (42%) | Workday, 7 (19%) |
| Real Estate (31) | 12 (39%) | Workday, 6 (19%) |
| Industrials (80) | 32 (40%) | Workday, 11 (14%) |
| Communication Services (23) | 15 (65%) | Workday, 3 (13%) |
| Consumer Discretionary (48) | 26 (54%) | Workday, 5 (10%) |
| Utilities (31) | 14 (45%) | SAP SuccessFactors, 8 (26%) |
| Energy (21) | 11 (52%) | SAP SuccessFactors, 3 (14%) |
| Materials (26) | 9 (35%) | Phenom People, 3 (12%) |
In the June 2026 analysis, Workday leads in 8 of 11 sectors and is strongest in Health Care, where it runs 29% of company careers sites. SAP SuccessFactors leads in Utilities and Energy. Phenom leads in Materials. Communication Services (65%) and Consumer Discretionary (54%) have the highest unidentified shares. Our research post attributes most undetected sites to single-page careers sites that load the ATS through JavaScript, which a static fetch cannot see.
What the AI layer does at each vendor
A platform being present does not tell you which AI features an employer has switched on. But the three AI-forward vendors in the top seven publish how their screening works:
Workday (HiredScore). Workday announced its intent to acquire HiredScore on February 26, 2024. HiredScore grades candidates A to D; a "B" is a candidate who "meets all basic qualifications" (Workday docs). Since an August 2026 release, a large language model "evaluates each screenable qualification individually against the candidate's parsed resume." Form-filling advice for Workday applications is in our Workday resume tips.
Phenom. Phenom's Fit Score evaluates "skills, experience, title, and location requirements" and, Phenom says, never considers "race, gender, disability, or religion."
Eightfold. Eightfold's OFCCP disclosure describes a match score that "ranges from 0 through 5 in increments of 0.5." It uses titles, work experience, education, skills and resume text, and Eightfold says it "does not replace human decision making."
For SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle and iCIMS, we have not reviewed AI screening documentation for this page, so we make no claim about their AI features here. Their resume-parsing advice is covered in our guides to SAP SuccessFactors and Oracle HCM.
Phenom and Eightfold often sit on top of another system
One caution when reading the table. Our research post notes that Phenom is frequently layered on top of an underlying ATS, often Workday or Oracle. Where we detected Phenom on the careers site, we could not always see what was behind it. The same can be true of other careers-site platforms. So a company counted under Phenom may also run Workday or Oracle behind the apply button, and the true Workday and Oracle numbers are likely somewhat higher than reported.
For you as an applicant, this means you may meet two AI layers: a careers-site matcher that recommends jobs and ranks applicants, and an ATS that parses your file into a structured profile. They read the same resume. A single-column, text-based file that states the job's required qualifications plainly works for both.
How to check an employer yourself
You do not need our dataset to identify a platform. The apply page usually gives it away:
- the URL after you click "Apply" (for example a
myworkdayjobs.comaddress for Workday, orboards.greenhouse.iofor Greenhouse) - the privacy or AI-use notice, which in some places, such as New York City, must describe automated tools.
If you would rather not guess, the ATS Finder looks it up.
What this means for your applications
- Look up the platform before you tailor. The free ATS Finder tells you which system a company uses.
- For Workday employers, cover every basic qualification. HiredScore's line between B and C is whether all required qualifications are met.
- For Phenom employers, cover the four Fit Score inputs: skills, title, experience and location.
- For Eightfold employers, show current skills in current roles. Eightfold's engineering blog describes weighing recent versus historical skill use.
- Everywhere, keep the file parseable. Every one of these systems reads parsed text. One column, standard headings and no images is the common denominator.
Limits of this data
These counts, from our S&P 500 analysis, describe S&P 500 companies' careers sites in June 2026. They do not describe all employers, smaller companies, or which AI features each company has enabled. A platform can also be swapped between our snapshot and your application. Where we could not identify a platform (42.7% of companies), the company may use any of the vendors above or a custom system.

Frequently asked questions
- What is the most common AI recruiting platform at large US companies?
- Workday. In our June 2026 analysis of S&P 500 careers sites it ran 87 companies, 30.2% of the 288 whose platform we could identify. Workday's AI screening product is HiredScore.
- How was the platform for each company identified?
- We fetched each company's careers page in June 2026, followed redirects and embedded frames, and matched URL hostnames and page signatures against known ATS vendors, probing some vendors' public job-board APIs for ambiguous cases. The full method and a CSV of classifications are on our S&P 500 ATS research page.
- Do all Workday employers use AI to screen resumes?
- Not necessarily. HiredScore AI for Recruiting is a product employers adopt, and which features a company has enabled is not visible from its careers site.
- Is Phenom an ATS or an AI tool?
- Phenom's own pages describe AI matching (Fit Score), resume parsing, one-way interviews and interview scheduling. In our data it was the platform detected on 39 S&P 500 careers sites, the second most common after Workday.
